such despair is felt..

i feel much more appreciation of myself that i was born without deformities

There are a lot of unhappy people who have NF out there.

But there are also people who are overwhelmingly joyful, who are an inspiration to others and don't view their condition as a curse, but as just a small part of who they are. I married a man with NF and he is and was one of the best people I've ever met: his kindness, generousity and forgiving nature never cease to amaze me. We have two kids that have NF as well (and one more who's not showing any signs) and they are some of the sweetest, most joyful and sensitive/caring kids. I'm so proud of them and their love for others. They are joyful despite having gone through more than most kids go through.

Yes, it's nice not to have medical conditions like NF. It makes life a little easier in some ways. But along with NF, at least from what I've seen, comes a great appreciation for life and people that I (as a "normal person") lack. I am thankful for them, just as I am thankful for your willingness to increase awareness of a condition that affects one in every 3,000 people (which may seem like a high number, but it's more common than cystic fibrosis, hereditary muscular dystrophy, Huntington’s disease and Tay Sachs combined. If you want more info on Neurofibromatosis, go to www.nfnetwork.org or www.ctf.org .

Again, thank you for increasing awareness. ♥
